South coast
Platis Gialos Beach
The longest sandy beach on the island, lined with tavernas, hotels and sun-loungers.
Know before you go
- Longest organised sand on the island. Sunbeds, a promenade, a gentle first step.
- KTEL from Apollonia in high summer, about twenty minutes.
- South-facing. When the northerly chops Kamares, this bay usually holds.
This page is the swim. Rooms and the village week sit on the stay guide.
Shared boat days leave from the marina at the south end. Vathi is the quieter horseshoe if you want less road and more silence.
Platis Gialos is 700 metres of soft sand, sheltered from the Meltemi by the headland to the north. Hotels and tavernas line the promenade, and the water shelves gently — perfect for kids. Busy by Sifnos standards, but never crowded by Mykonos ones.
Swimming conditions and atmosphere
The longest sandy beach on the island, lined with tavernas, hotels and sun-loungers.
Sofia restaurant, Mama Mia pizzeria, Omega3 sushi are the most practical places to anchor the day, whether you want a quick iced coffee, a slow fish lunch, or just a shaded table after the swim. Because Platis Gialos is not interchangeable with every other bay on Sifnos, the combination of access, tavernas, and time of day matters here more than on the wilder coves.
